De Bruyne was offered limited opportunities at Chelsea.
Chelsea have confirmed the sale of Kevin de Bruyne to Wolfsburg, according to Sky Sports.
The youngster, who had been in talks with the German outfit for some
time, was transferred for a fee thought to be around £16million and has
penned a five-and-a-half year deal.
De Bruyne originally moved to Stamford Bridge in 2012 from Genk, and was tipped for a bright future in west London. However following a series of loan spells, the Belgian starlet became frustrated in his lack of first-team action this season under new Blues boss Jose Mourinho.
Despite playing a part in Chelsea’s opening Premier League fixture this season, the 22-year-old was confined to just nine appearances in all competitions, and numerous clubs were said to have been courting him this month.
Indeed, following the confirmation of his switch, De Bruyne revealed that La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid were also a viable option.
“"I also talked to Atletico Madrid. It was a good option, but I wasn't sure I would be playing there," he said.
"I didn't leave Chelsea because I have to go to the World Cup - it could be over after three games - but just because I lost my joy."
The departure of the midfielder follows the return of Nemanja Matic, who re-signed for Chelsea earlier this week for a mooted £21million.
