Andy Murray will be seeded third for the US Open after Rafa Nadal overtook him in the latest version of the world rankings.
Nadal’s victory at last week’s Cincinatti Masters coupled with Murray’s recent patchy form has led to the Spaniard taking the number two ranking.
This means Murray drops to world number three and more importantly means the reigning US Open champion may well have to play Nadal or Novak Djokovic in the semi’s this year.

If he had remained world number two, Murray would not have had to
play Djokovic until the final and could have avoided Nadal if
the Spaniard was drawn in the opposite half of the draw.Nadal though will be pleased to have regained his place in the world’s top two, continuing the brilliant form which has seen him play the final of 11 of the 12 tournaments he has contested since his return from a seven month injury lay-off.
Roger Federer’s fall from grace continues, with the 17-time Grand Slam winner now ranked number seven in the world, his lowest position in 11 years.
