Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their alleged
pursuit of Ezequiel Garay, after the Benfica defender reiterated his
commitment to the Portuguese club, reports Sky Sports.
In an interview with the Primeira Liga giants' own television station, the Argentina international explained just how happy he is at Estádio da Luz, and is not thinking about the possibility of a January transfer.
Red Devils boss David Moyes has been heavily linked with a move for Garay - who has a £17million buyout clause written into his current contract - but is understood to have turned down the opportunity to bring him to Old Trafford during the summer.
The Premier League champions are still monitoring the 27-year-old though, and with increasing concerns over the fitness and form of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, could reignite their interest when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.
However, Manchester United will face an uphill struggle to convince the South American to leave Lisbon, particularly in a World Cup year, after Garay cemented his place in his national team, after impressing during his time at Benfica.
"I have learned a lot since I came to Benfica and I am very happy at the club," he said in an interview with Benfica TV.
"We qualified and it will be my first World Cup if I get called up so I'm really excited."
