Internationally acclaimed freedom fighter and Africa's most respected leaders, Nelson Mandela,
goes home. He grew up herding cattle, became a lawyer and then a
fighter against apartheid. He was imprisoned for life but that did not
quiet him. Nelson Mandela became South Africa's first black president,
and an icon and inspiration to millions around the world.
Below is what President Barack Obama has to say about his passing:
"Let us pause and give thanks for the fact that Nelson Mandela lived — a man who took history in his hands and bent the arc of the moral universe toward justice."
—President Obama
